Finding a Funeral Service in Houston that is Right for You

When it comes to choosing a funeral service in Houston, there are many factors to consider. The entire process of deciding which funeral home to use is fraught with difficulty because decisions have to be made while loved ones are also dealing with grief over their loss and the realities of how much a funeral service costs. Perhaps the best time to think about funeral services is before a loved one passes away, when they can be a part of the decision-making process and give their families some indication of what type of funeral services they prefer.

Whether you are making a joint decision with your loved ones or you are finalizing funeral plans for a deceased family member, try to choose a funeral home that provides the services you need. Funeral service in Houston may include some or all of the following:

  • Traditional funeral services: Usually a traditional funeral service includes a viewing the night before, a memorial service at the church of your choice or at the funeral home’s chapel, a procession to the cemetery for the graveside service and a final reception at the site of your choice. Not all funeral homes in Houston will offer all of these services, which is why it is important to question exactly which services are included in their traditional package. You may also be able to pick and choose which particular funeral services you want; just be sure to ask how that affects the final costs.

  • Cremation services: There are some individuals who prefer to have their loved ones cremated, perhaps out of respect for their wishes. If you choose to use cremation services, you can still request a traditional memorial service, including an open casket viewing the evening before, if that is your desire. You may also request direct cremation services that do not include a memorial services and instead allow you to pick up your loved one’s remains right away. Not all funeral homes in Houston offer cremation services, so be sure to ask up front if this is an option for you.
