Lynn B. Dillard Sr.
January 28, 1934 - June 29, 2017
Lynn Bourland Dillard, 83, a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all passed away on June 29, 2017 in Houston, Texas. Born in Clarendon, Texas on January 28, 1934, he grew up under the loving care of his parents, Robert Garing and Hazel Lynn Bourland Dillard and his grandparents. He graduated from Austin High School on January 21, 1952. He entered the Naval Reserve May 6, 1950 and transferred to active duty on January 12, 1953. While serving during the Korean War, he served aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Wasp, which took him to many ports of call all around the world. He received numerous decorations. He was released from active duty of November 21, 1954 and received an honorable discharge on May 6, 1960. He attended the University of Texas at Austin where he met Juanita Lou Linder. Through an elopement they were first married November 21, 1955. Their second marriage ceremony was in the First Baptist Church in Galveston, Texas, August 18, 1956. Over his years he worked for Austin Engineering, Wilson X-Ray & Surgical and ultimately Southwest Bell Telephone Company.
Lynn is survived by his loving wife, Juanita; his son, Lynn Bourland Dillard, Jr.; his grandson, Jay Wesley Dillard; siblings, Robert Garing Dillard, Jr. of Houston, TX, Gene Ritchie Dillard of Austin, Texas, Sharon Kay Soergel of Irving, TX and Frank Jeffery Dillard of Houston, TX; and sister-in-law, Diorah Owens. Lynn lived life to the fullest in all he did. His big smile and boisterous voice were his trademark.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Chapel, 7723 Beechnut, Houston, Texas 77074 on Thursday, July 6, 2017 with a funeral service to follow. Interment will be held at the Oak Hill Cemetery, 101/181 Oak Hill Cemetery Road, Bastrop, TX on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or Texas Children’s Hospital.
