Karen Jean Ingram

Karen Jean Ingram ascended on August 4, 2017, at 1:24 am , surrounded by her devoted family and friends, after a courageous and graceful battle with breast cancer. She was 59 years old.
Karen was born in Oklahoma City, OK, on March 9, 1958, to loving parents Joe E. and Jane Wilkison Ingram. Her family moved to Texas, where she attended school, graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1976. She went on to study court reporting at Alvin Community College, and had a successful career in that field for over a decade. She also attained a massage therapy license and operated her own wellness center in the Houston Medical Center for several years. She returned to school attending San Jacinto College in 2006 and received an Associate Degree in English. Her life’s journey led her through many pursuits, which included teaching English, transformational life coaching, and caring for others and their children. Karen was a lover of the beach, animals, chocolate, toffee nut lattes, The Bachelorette, music, and dancing. In 1990, she began her true calling as a devoted and dedicated mother to her daughter, Amanda, and in 1998, her son, Gabriel, who along with her adoring grandson, Fox, are her enduring legacy.
Karen sought enlightenment and was strongly connected to the natural universe, having actively embraced a number of faiths. She lived a vibrant, active, and diverse life, always remaining centered and intimately connected to the world and people around her. At heart she was a teacher, always shining with authenticity and love. Karen always gave of herself to all those around her. She always pushed herself to learn more and was eternally in a classroom. She faced life’s many challenges with strength, bravery, and grace. She spent her last weeks laughing and loving with family and friends and looking forward confidently to her next chapter while reminding us all, of the truly important things in life.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her older sister, Rebecca Ingram Pena, and is survived by her children, Amanda Chelsea Ingram and Gabriel Joshua Keisler; grandson, Fox Liam Jones; siblings, Mary Ingram Brantley, Joe E. Ingram, and Gary C. Ingram; her nephews, John Pablo Pena and Adam Ingram Pena and their families; and a multitude of other beloved relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Karen’s Life will be held on October 8, 2017, in Galveston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The PRASAD project, Ocean Conservancy, or The Office of Letters and Light.
