Earl C. SnyderJanuary 06, 1925 - February 14, 2012 Online Obituaries
Earl C. Snyder of Missouri City, Texas went to be with the Lord on February 14, 2012 at the age of 87. He was born January 6, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was raised in Pampa, Texas, graduating from Pampa High School. Dad said he accepted Christ when in Jr. High and was baptized at Central Baptist Church in Pampa. As an Army Sergeant, he served in the Pacific Theater landing in Japan with the Army occupational forces in World War 2. During the war he corresponded for two and half years with Betty, whom he eventually met after his return home from the service, and married on December 16, 1946 in Galesburg, IL. They just celebrated 65 years of marriage in December! Earl worked in a warehouse, sold cars, drove a delivery truck and even sold Guardian Service cookware. In the early 1950’s, he began a career in the Chemical Industry with Phillips Petroleum Company in Borger, TX. In 1954, he transferred with Phillips to Pasadena, TX. Eleven years later, he transferred with Phillips to Beatrice, NE. He resigned from Phillips Petroleum and moved to Ft. Madison, IA where he continued working in the chemical industry. He retired with International Mineral and Chemical Company as Safety and Maintenance Engineer in 1985. He and Betty moved to Bella Vista, AR. They enjoyed traveling to most of the 50 states and into Canada. Where ever they lived, they were active in the Methodist Church in many capacities from mowing the yard to teaching, and serving the Lord through the Emmaus Community. Earl enjoyed golf, walking, hunting, bird watching, dominos, volunteering for crime watch, and just helping people. He had a servant heart. He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, David and wife Janise, Douglas and wife Sally; daughter, Julie Schwarz and husband Ken; seven grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. How proud he was of his family! He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Clair Snider; step-mother, Celia (Pepper) Snider; two sisters; two brother-in-laws; and an infant daughter. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Chapel of Sugar Creek Baptist Church 13333 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas 77478. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously suggests that donations be made in Earl’s name to Second Mile Ministries, 504 F.M. 1092, Suite I, Stafford, Texas 77477. |
