Patricia Ann AlfordJanuary 19, 1944 - January 13, 2012 Online Obituaries
Patricia Ann Metz-Alford, born January 19, 1944, passed away Friday, January 13, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer. She was a beloved partner, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She was a native Houstonian and co-owner of Al & Norval Auto Svc. Through the shop, Pat was able to care for and help many people. After closing the shop, she began a new life adventure and was CEO of River Oaks Healthcare Management, a company she started with her Life Partner Melisa L. Frisby. This was an extension of the caring and loving person that she was. In her early years she and her mother Anita Metz ran a coffee shop together at the Flour Building. Anita owned an Ice House where they made sure to cook a large meal on Sundays to feed those in need. You could not have known her without her making an impact on you, from her loving smile and caring and adventurous ways, to her joyful laugh and favorite perfumes that smelled as sweet as she was. She was known for her Tiki Punch nail polish that was just as refreshing as her personality. She enjoyed whale watching from both coasts, traveling, making it to 28 states in the U.S., and looking at bluebonnets with her grandchildren. She loved spending time at her lake house and attending and volunteering with the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends the most. To say that she had a rich and full life would be an understatement. Her smile and her presence was an amazing blessing to all who loved her and came in contact with her. The last trip she took was to Gatlinburg, TN. before Christmas. She was not feeling well for the trip but she did get to experience the beauty of the mountains and wonderful Christmas lights that the area is known for. She was truly a wonderful and loving person and will be missed by all whose lives’ she touched and will be in our hearts forever. For 22 years she shared a life with Melisa Frisby, who considers it a true blessing to have been a part of her life. The two of them watched as her granddaughter Brittany was born on her birthday. They shared a love of travel and family. Pat was a daily presence in the lives of her nieces Haley and Katie Best and Bobbie Hoose. She was very proud of the accomplishments made by all of her grandchildren. She would have loved to meet her first great-grandchild who is due in a few months. She was preceded in death by her mother, Anita Metz. Pat is survived by her partner, Melisa L. Frisby; son, Troy Alford and wife Lisa, grandchildren, Brittany and Michael; son, Jack Alford and wife Karen, and grandchildren, Kristina and Jennifer. She is also survived by her sister, Bobby Metz; Melisa’s parents, Mary Dee and Quinton Frisby; nieces, Haley, Katie, Abrin, Bailie, Molly and Emily; and nephews, Boice, Taylor and Benjamin. Some of the special friends in her life include JR and Gerald Smith, Sierra Fourwinds, Michele Crosson, Jesse Yarbrough, Dr. Gustavo Rivero (who cared for her in her final week of life), Donna and John Coleman, and Jan Arnold and Carla Fowler. Her life was also touched by Hector Garza and his family, Jimmy Szalay and his wife Leila, Nick and Elias Ponce and Reni Varghese. In addition, her special furry friends Brandy, Chloe and Sampson provided her much comfort and love. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2012 in the Miller Celebration of Life House, 7723 Beechnut, Houston, TX 77074. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously suggests that donations be made in Patricia’s name to one of the following: Human Rights Campaign- TWRC Wildlife- Her favorite color is what we called "Pat Pink", it is fascia but the darker shades, and in addition she liked purple. We are suggesting that anyone who can wear either clothing or some patch of those colors to the Memorial Service please do so. I welcome and invite all to sign her guest book and for those who do not have a memorial capability please note on the guestbook the charity of organization that you chose. She never really knew what a difference she made in the lives of those she touched. Thank you all for helping to make her life more full and happy. |
