Richard Earl HicksJune 21, 1922 - December 04, 2011 Online Obituaries
Richard Earl Hicks, (aka Dick or Deek), born June 21, 1922 in Lexington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 4, 2011. Dick is survived by his wife, Bette Allison Hicks, the love of his life for 62 years; their children, Richard and his wife Judy, Vivian Holz and her husband Bobby, Paul and his wife Diane, Philip, William Perry and his wife Carolyn, and Patrick and his wife Brenda; 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Dick and Bette moved to Houston from Louisville, Kentucky in 1950 after he was transferred from a welding and fittings manufacturing company where he served as a regional manager. He was a very humble man and beloved in the industry. Before relocating to Houston, Dick was a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in mechanical engineering. While attending UK he was the captain of the golf team and won the Kentucky State Amateur Championship in 1946. Dick loved his church family at Bethany Christian Church where he was a member for 60 years. Dick served as a Sunday school teacher in the two year old class for 25 years and coached many youth basketball teams for Bethany. Dick loved nothing more than being with his family and friends and playing golf with his colleagues at Braeburn Country Club where he won the club championship in 1954 and 1965. He was also involved in any activity that would keep him active with his children and their sporting events. A special thanks to the staff at Legend Oaks Nursing Home. Their love and care was truly amazing. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Bethany Christian Church, 3223 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77098. |
