Harry Walter Wilkins IIApril 05, 1932 - January 29, 2012 Online Obituaries
Harry Walter Wilkins II, age 79, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 29, 2012. Through a long struggling fight with Lung Cancer and Alzheimer Disease, he was blessed to stay home with the most loving beautiful care of his life, Nelwyn Hall Wilkins, wife of 57 years. He was born April 5, 1932, in Trujillo, Peru, South America. He came to Houston, Texas in order to attend The University of Houston where he studied Mechanical Engineering. Speaking little English he excitingly played soccer and pursued his goals readily soon making many friends and loyal colleagues. Harry worked in his field of study many decades as Chief Engineer for Schaffer Mechanical. Harry loved his family, soccer, the seas, excellent dining, travelling the world, and coaching into adulthood thousands of some of the most outstanding people in his community. He met Nelwyn, his wife, soon after his arrival in Houston and instantly loved her. They dated several years before marrying in Galveston, Texas beginning a beautiful journey together. The two brought five children into the world. Proceeded in death by Harry Wilkins II’s first and oldest son, Harry Wilkins III in 1991, Harry is survived by daughter, Roxana Wilkins Juarez and husband Javier; son, Herman Wilton Wilkins and wife Mary; son, Howard Wesley Wilkins; daughter, Elena Wilkins Blume and husband Roger. Harry’s thriving grandchildren include Marissa Wilkins, Tony Wilkins, Alex Wilkins, Megan Wilkins, Michael Blume, Ava Blume, and Tea Juarez. While he loved his own children and family, he also began the St. Francis De Sales Soccer Club helping to build momentum in the sport of soccer to the United States from South America opening the eyes of thousands of young people to the world before them. He cared for each of the soccer players as his own family. He taught dozens upon dozens of coaches years after years; each he felt were like his own brothers and sisters. He helped to instill vision, championship leadership, loyalty, and virtue in many adults who now share the same gift today with thousands of others. Harry Walter Wilkins II treated soccer not simply as a sport. Soccer was the sport that defined core values and strengths in life. Waking up weekends at 6:00 a.m. marking many a soccer field, to coaching up to four soccer teams in a season, Harry fulfilled his soccer passions and passed on goals within others much further than the net. Harry Walter Wilkins II lived a full life which he loved and pursued each of his favorite dreams, achieving a lifetime of courage, strength, integrity, loyalty, happiness, and knowledge. His family, loved ones, friends and colleagues will love, remember, and cherish him always. He spoke English with a magnificently beautiful South American accent. While he was a bit self-conscious of his accent, people hear his voice straight into their hearts and souls. A Visitation will be Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Chapel, 7723 Beechnut, Houston, TX 77074.
