Walter Chester Wrye III
December 27, 1946 - September 28, 2017
Walter Chester Wrye, III, born December 27, 1946 in Galveston, Texas to Audrey (Stark) and Walter Chester Wrye, Jr., passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2017. Chester graduated from The Kinkaid School, attended The University of Texas, and graduated from The University of Houston with a B.A. in History. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Christopher C. Wrye, and his stepfather, P. F. Graves, Jr. He is survived by his wife Ruth Hansen Wrye; children Lila Wrye and husband Seth Chalkley, Sara Wrye, Walter Chester Wrye, IV, Rebecca Hightower and husband Scott; grandchildren Hannah and Max Chalkley; sister Ellie Brooks; as well as his beloved nieces and nephews. Chester had many talents and interests. He was a musicologist who played guitar by ear, could quote the words of almost any Bob Dylan song, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of classical music. He had a natural talent for cooking, with or without a recipe. An avid reader and collector of books, he was seldom seen without a book in his hands. Chester was a giving person, and he enriched the lives of his friends and family by sharing his music, food, and books with all.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at Live Oak Friends Meeting House, 1318 W 26th St, Houston, TX 77008.
