Joseph David Welsh

Joseph David Welsh of Sugar Land, Texas passed away on September 22, 2017 at the age of 87. He was born on September 20, 1930 in Chicago, IL to Raymond and Elizabeth Welsh. Joe was in the United States Marine Corp before marrying Rita L. Mosier on May 15, 1954 in Chicago and they enjoyed 63 years together. They started their family in Chicago, moved to Tulsa in 1962, and finally landed in Houston in 1966. He was employed by DX/Esso/ExxonMobil for his whole career and enjoyed talking about company news and stock price movement.
Joe was a long-time parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, then St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Sugar Land where he was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus #4204. In addition to raising six children, he was very involved in Rice University Athletics, Boy Scouts, United Way, Sugar Canes, and many other organizations. Joe is survived by his wife, Rita Welsh; daughter, Susan Brown; her daughter, Brianna Brown; son and daughter-in-law, David & Barbie Welsh; daughter and son-in-law, Ann & Terry Moles; their sons, Cody Moles and wife Kyla, Travis Moles and wife Alyssa; their daughters, Bexley and Bailor; son and daughter-in-law, Jim & Terry Jo Welsh; their sons, Brian Welsh and Logan Welsh; son, Jody Welsh; his daughter and son-in-law, Brittani and Chris Schwartz; their son, Aaron; granddaughters, Alexa Welsh, Liz Benitez and husband Angel; their children Holly, Wyatt, & David.
He is preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Stella Welsh; daughter-in-law, Staci Welsh; brothers, Raymond, Harold, and Bob.
A Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon on Friday, September 29, 2017 at St Theresa’s Catholic Church, 705 St. Theresa Blvd., Sugar Land, TX 77498 with a Rosary at 1:00 pm, with a Memorial Mass at 2:00 pm .With a reception following in the KC Hall across from the church.
