Obituary for Richard Brent Newton

Brent Newton passed away on March 1, 2018, following a lengthy illness. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend.

Brent was born in Sterling, Colorado. The family moved to Denver where Brent graduated from East High School in 1965. He was proud to represent East High in winning the Colorado State Tennis Championship in 1965. He was subsequently inducted into the East High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He maintained his connections to East and to the many friends he made there throughout his lifetime.

Brent graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio in 1969 with a major in Political Science. He later became an Associate of the University. As a member of Chi Delta Tau Fraternity while at Trinity and serving as the fraternity’s Pledge Master, he was later instrumental in starting the Chi Delta Tau Foundation. He served for many years on its Board and is Emeritus today.

Brent and his wife Mary were fortunate to travel the world, much of their travels a result of Brent’s success as a Structured Settlement Broker. He ran his own business in structured settlements for thirty years and was a member of the National Structured Settlement Trade Association.

Brent is predeceased by his parents, Larry Newton and Margaret Lamb; and by his son, Nils Freeman. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Mary; his son, John Freeman; and his sister-in-law, Sandy Snodgrass.

He will be interred at the family plot in Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder, Colorado.
Gifts can be made to the Chi Delta Tau Foundation at Trinity University San Antonio where a scholarship will be established in his honor. Contact Steve Mach at 713-695-6000 or Condolences may be offered at
