Obituary for Ruby Jewell Bolton

Ruby Jewell Bolton was born in a small sharecropper's house on a property outside of Waelder, TX in 1934 to Bill and Ollie Vaughan. She was the eldest of two daughters. When she was 2 years old, the family gave up farming and moved to Houston where her father could find better work. They moved to Pecan Park on the east end of Houston where Ruby attended Burnett and Southmayde Elementary schools and Jackson Junior High. Some memorable events of Junior High was feeling her school tremble when the big explosion happened in Texas City in 1947 and being elected Duchess in the 7th grade. She attended and graduated from Austin High School in 1952, where she enjoyed very much being a member of the Scottish Brigade (bass drummer).

She met her future husband, Henry Bolton, when a cousin brought him to her house to visit. They were married in 1952 shortly before her 18th birthday, and remained true sweethearts for almost 60 years. She worked for Corrigan's Jewelers and the Bell Telephone Company until her first child, Billie, was born in 1954. In 1956, she and Henry moved to Freeway Manor where Brenda and Hank were born.

Ruby and Henry were an inseparable pair. Whatever they did, they did together. In addition to spending time with family and friends, they also enjoyed real estate, traveling, visiting antique and thrift stores, or just having coffee together. They were devoted to each other until the end.

Ruby thoroughly enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was very much loved by family and friends. Everyone remembers her funny sense of humor, and her ability to make everyone laugh, as well as her ability to make everyone feel special. She had a big heart and welcomed everyone into her home with a big hug!

She will also be remembered for the compassion she had for others. She never forgot the people who were sick, lonely or in nursing homes. She cared for, not only her husband, parents and mother-in-law, but also aunts, uncle and a neighbor. And she tried to keep the old people company when they were lonely.

Ruby is survived by 3 children, Billie Bolton (Scott Pitzer), Brenda Herbert, and Hank Bolton; a daughter in law, Maria Moreno; four grandchildren, Jaren Herbert, Katherine Ouellette (Joe Ouellette), Trenton Herbert (Katie Herbert), Annie “Dugan” Bolton; great-grandchild, Graham Herbert; sister, Frances Orosco (Hildo Orosco); nephew, George Doyle; and former son-in-law, Alva Morrison.
