Obituary for Dorita Ann Carlisle Resnick

Dody Resnick, born Dorita Ann Carlisle on September 5, 1941 in Pontiac, Michigan, passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 in Houston, Texas.

She is survived by her daughter, Sallie Carlisle; granddaughter, Katherine Carlisle Gonzales, both of Houston, Texas; nephew, Dirk Hawn and wife Sandra; great nieces, Lisa Hawn Chapman and Amy Hawn-Smith and their families of Oakland County, Michigan; ex-husband and friend, Bob Resnick of Katy, Texas; stepson, Scott Resnick and wife Mary of Montgomery, Texas; and the Levin family of Sugar Land, Texas.

Dody lived a life full of fun and adventure. She was a generous soul who had a passion for art and art history, antiques, interior decorating, travel, charitable work and animal welfare. Throughout her life she enjoyed supporting various charitable causes such as Citizens for Animal Protection, The Houston Grand Opera, The March of Dimes, The Houston Ballet and other organizations. In 1993 she founded The Animal Emergency Endowment, a 501(c)(3) foundation to benefit homeless animals through medical care, adoption, education, spay and neuter services and rescue support.

Her travels took her around the U.S. and to Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Asia, but her favorite voyage was a photo safari in Kenya, which she enjoyed profoundly. Her greatest love was her family. She was a wonderful mother, aunt and grandmother, an enthusiastic hostess and all-around cheerleader for any effort or cause her family wanted to take on.
Dody is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Burton Carlisle and Dolores Roliff Carlisle; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Charles Hawn; sister, Janet Carlisle; and nephew Gregory Hawn.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, January 18, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church at 5501 Main St., Houston, Texas.

A special note of gratitude to caregivers Maximina and Violeta Longoria of Houston, Texas, and to the staff at Blue Star Hospice for their love and care extended to Dody, as well all who sent thoughts and prayers.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be made to The Animal Emergency Endowment,, P.O. Box 270354, Houston, TX 77277-0354.
