Obituary for Elogio Acasta Luera

Elogio Acasta Luera, 86, passed away the morning of Friday, August 24, 2018 peacefully at home after his battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Olivia Luera; children, Margo Luera, Elisa J, Villarreal and husband Israel, Joe Luera and wife Olivia, Michael Luera, David Luera and wife Aurora; grandchildren, Joe and wife Peggy, Matthew, Eric and fiancé Mayra, Patricia and husband Rene, Anthony, Brian, Jessica and fiancé Josh, Stephan, Alexa, Vanessa; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Alyssa, Elijah, Madilynn; brother, Gilbert Luera and wife Amparo.

Elogio was born in San Angelo, Texas and proudly served in the Army as a medic Staff Sargent in the Korean War for 3 years. He would later be sought out by a wounded soldier he helped down a hill while under heavy gun fire who wanted to personally thank him for saving his life. His family took up their fathers’ efforts and in 2017 found Elogio and with help from Elogio’s grand-daughter Patricia, he met the family on Skype. They thanked him and later sent letters along with pictures of their family members that would have never been if it wasn’t for Elogio saving their dad’s life.

He was a masonry helper who worked hard and later would become a brick layer and eventually own his own masonry company. He was loved by all his neighbors for his friendliness, cheerful smile and his beautiful Christmas light displays.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 in the Miller Funeral Chapel, 7723 Beechnut, Houston, Texas 77074 with a Rosary.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church 1510 5th Street, Missouri City, Texas 77489, followed by burial at Houston National Cemetery.
