Obituary for Jack Richard Chiles

Jack Richard Chiles, born September 15, 1945, in Houston, Texas, the son of Ernest Sinclair Chiles and Marjorie Todd Chiles, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018, at age 73.

Jack graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston and attended Houston Community College. Among Jack’s many interests were martial arts and aviation. Jack became a private pilot, owned his own plane, and enjoyed many hours flying family and friends locally and cross country.

He was a proud native Texan and a patriotic American. He joined the U. S. Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam in 1967 with the 20th Combat Engineers.

After Vietnam, Jack returned home and made his mark in the business world. He owned and operated LaRue Automotive for over 35 years, growing the company. Never idle, he also was involved in several business ventures, including Big Sur Recreational and Bingle Pawn.

Jack’s generosity was unsung. He was a blessing and a hero to many who were down and out or were just in need of a friend. Kind and friendly, he was always teaching and helping. He was generous with his time and his resources. Jack was loyal to family and friends and dedicated to making the world a better place.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Bernice Sakely; brother, David S. Chiles; brother-in-law, Richard DeScalzo; and beloved nephew, David L. DeScalzo.

He is survived by his wife, Jane E. Sakely; sister, Marjorie L. DeScalzo of Houston; sisters-in-law, Johnette Chiles of Sugar Land, Barbara Withers of Salem, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Angela K. DeScalzo, Robert, Renick and Abigail Hill; Nick DeScalzo; Jeffrey and wife Melissa, Jack, Leo and Ayden Chiles; Patrick and Lyric Chiles; Andrew and wife Tabitha and Andi Chiles.

A Military Service will be held at Houston National Cemetery on February 15, 2019. Time to be announced.
