Obituary for Margaret Rose Marrie

Margaret Rose Marrie passed away peacefully on June 25, 2019, surrounded by her family, in Houston Texas. Margaret was born on August 24, 1940 in Houston, and she is survived by her children, Cheryl Ann Helaire and fiance’ Bill Rowe; Michael (Mike) Marrie and wife Katherine. Margaret is also survived by her grandchildren Savannah Zelaya and husband Eric, Ian Helaire, Ryan Marrie, and Elise Marrie; great-grandson Luke Zelaya; siblings, Michael Dennis Bray, Dolores Ellen (Bray) Koza, John Raymond Bray and their spouses; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog Nugget.

She is predeceased by her parents, Julia Moriarty Bray and Edward Joseph Bray; as well as her siblings, Jean Marie Bray, Mary Ann Bray, and James Francis Bray.

Margaret started her life in the East End of Houston, before moving with her family to the Almeda Genoa Road area south of Hobby Airport in 1948. She enjoyed the carefree style of living in what was then wide-open countryside. Her dad maintained a small farm with many kinds of animals, including chickens, turkeys and the occasional horse or pig. As a member of a large family living on a farm, she was no stranger to hard work. Margaret loved working in her dad’s garden and enjoyed the flowers, among other things, growing there. It would be fair to say that Margaret was the apple of her father’s eye.

During high school Margaret was an early riser and an outstanding student at Mt. Carmel High School in southeast Houston. Upon graduation in 1958 she could have attended any college of her choice but instead chose a different path, going into the world of business. By that time, she had met the love of her life, Frank Marrie.

Her stay here on earth was temporary, as is ours, but it was special.

In the words of her children “our mother left us to start her new life with the Almighty, her Maker. She was all the things that we aspire to be honest, loyal, courageous and selfless”. Margaret faced many challenges in her life, but she dealt with each on her own terms and always took steps to ensure that her family was her first priority.

Please remember Margaret and her family in your prayers.
