Obituary for Merlyn O. Osbourne

Merlyn was born on the Caribbean Island of Barbados, he spent his young days in the Barbados Merchant Marines travelling from Barbados to ports all over the world. Merlyn married Doreen A. Gill in 1960 and have 4 children from that union. Merlyn and Doreen immigrated to the United States in 1969, and settled in the Bronx New York, where they continued to raise their family as Merlyn worked at several Hospitals in the city. His final position in New York was with Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, before the entire family resettled in Houston Texas in 1980. Merlyn held several positions in Houston and finally Retired from Seven Acres Nursing Home in 2016.
Merlyn Osbourne was a Past Worshipful Master of the Independent Order of Mechanics Preston Unity, Inc. (IOMPU) and prior to that was a member of the Freemason Society. Merlyn was initiated by the IOMPU Solomon’s Cloister Lodge No. 16 in New York, New York on October 27, 1990. He remained a member of Lodge No. 16 until becoming a founding member of the IOMPU Southern Star of Solomon’s Cloister Lodge No. 18 in Houston, Texas, in 1991. Merlyn rose through the ranks of Lodge No. 18 and in 2007 was elected to the office of Worshipful Master. He continued to serve in Lodge No. 18 until 2015 when the IOMPU Solomon’s Celestial Lodge No. 27 was formed and he became a founding member of Lodge No. 27 where he served until his passing.
Merlyn is survived by His ex-wife, Doreen A. Osbourne; brother, Winston Osbourne of Barbados; sisters, Peggy Osbourne of Barbados and Judy Osbourne of Canada; sons, Merlyn M. Jr and wife Alejandra, Adrian P. Osbourne and wife Kari; daughters, Sherri-Ann Carroll and husband Larry and Cheryll A. Miller and husband Zan , Annette Worrell and husband Ian; grandchildren, DJ Blakemore and wife Elyse, Jarrell Blakemore, Jennifer Osbourne, Jacqui Osbourne, Jacob Osbourne, Benaiah & Ciara Preston, Christopher & Nickolas Worrell, Jorge ,Roberto, Alex and Paulina; and a host of nieces and nephews.
