Boyd Alvin Patton entered into his eternal home on November 18, 2017. He was 83 years of age.

Boyd was born to Garner and Ruth Patton on July 4, 1934, in Borger Texas. Boyds father was a construction welder who worked on ships during WWII. The family spent some years in California. They returned to Levelland, Texas, when he was in high school. Boyd always worked after school and in the summers. He worked in the meat market at the grocery store. Another time he worked at a furniture store. Boyd was the Salutatorian of his graduating class in Levelland, Texas, in 1952. During summers when he was in college, he was a Roustabout in the oil field. He was also learning pipe fitting. In college he was a counselor in the mens dorm to help pay his way to school. He loved and collected books on every subject. He loved words and vocabulary his whole life. Boyd loved learning his whole life. He read while listening to classical music.

Boyd graduated from the University of Texas in 1957 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He had a long and very successful career in that field and was never without work in his whole career. He began his career in Kingsville, Texas with Celanese Corp. He later worked for Tenneco and then for Fluor in Houston. While working for Fluor, he and the family lived in Germany for a year and a half. When he returned to Houston, he was recruited by Blount to be manager of the Process Engineering. He later was recruited for Litwin Engineering and Raytheon as manager of Process Engineering. Two years after he retired, he was asked to come to work for Foster Wheeler. Boyd loved working. His work took him too many overseas locations for short times besides the time for 18 months in Germany.

Boyd liked to travel. He and Betty were happy to go to Israel with the church group. Boyd and Betty went on tours, cruises, and a 6 week trip to celebrate their 50th anniversary. He planned and made all the lodging arrangements before the trip began using travel books from the library and AAA travel guide before the internet was in popular use. Only one reservation had to be changed.

Boyd was a devoted Christian and student of the Bible. He accepted Christ at the age of five. His Christianity was important to him when he was in college. He believed in prayer and was faithful seeking guidance for daily life. He was always faithful to whatever congregation he joined. He lived by his convictions. He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. His life was an example for his wife and sons to follow. He was a group leader in Bible Study Fellowship for 5 years. He was a Bible teacher in church for some years. He was respected by everyone who worked with him and those who knew him because of his exemplary life style.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother; grandson, Christopher Patton, who was killed in Iraq in 2007. Christopher was the son of David and Melanie Patton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Betty Grace; son, David Boyd and his wife Melanie Patton of Loganville, GA; their sons, Joshua of Los Angeles, CA and Nicholas of Loganville, GA; son, Paul Timothy Patton of Houston, TX; daughters, Melodie Patton and Christina Patton of Houston TX; sister, Jo Ann Carter of Oceanside, CA and her two sons, Steven of Irvine, CA and Stanley of Oceanside, CA.

Boyd enjoyed the fellowship of the church friends who dined together every Friday. He enjoyed going to the Fonteno Senior Center and to exercise with his long time trainer, John Ramirez.

Boyd has been a loyal member of Westbury Baptist Church for 48 years.

He was a Godly man who desired to please his Lord with his life. He will be missed by many family and friends.

Funeral Information

A Memorial Service will be held November 30, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Westbury Baptist Church 10425 Hillcroft Street, Houston, Texas 77096.
