Obituary for Alta Joy Walden

The Lord called Alta Joy Walden home on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Alta was born on October 17, 1935 in Cotulla, Texas to Lem and Donnie Hunter. She attended high school in Freer, Texas where she was a member of the marching band and prom queen in her senior year.

Alta married the love of her life, Curtis Walden, eventually settling in Houston where she worked as a mortgage loan officer for over 30 years.

She enjoyed reading her favorite authors, Max Lucado and Billy Graham and was quite the baker. Her family’s favorite dessert was her pecan pie which she faithfully baked for every special occasion and holiday.

Alta had an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and was an active member of Sharpstown Baptist Church. There she faithfully served her church family and community. She was a fan of gospel music and loved to sing in the church choir.

Alta was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Curtis, and brother James (Shotgun) Hunter. Alta leaves behind her son, Troy Walden and wife Melissa, and daughters Debra Holcomb, Kathi Perez and Wanna Wilson and husband, Brent. She is also survived by her 11 loving grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, a brother Monty Hunter and sisters, Margie Grimes, Nita Mack and Shirley Fewell.
