Obituary for Nancy Jane Wolfe

Nancy J. Wolfe left this earth on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the age of 82. She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Darryl; daughter, Morna McGann; daughter, Sister Nancy Liddy; son, Donald and wife Jena Liddy; grandchildren, Kirsten, Inga, Patrick, Kaetlyn and Ryan; sister, Eileen McEnery; and many nieces and nephews. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents Eileen (Murphy) and Thomas McGann, Jr., and son George Liddy Jr.

Born and raised in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, Nancy moved to South Florida with her earlier husband, George Liddy. While raising four children, Nancy was also instrumental in helping her husband develop the U.S. Women’s professional tennis circuit. Nancy herself was an ardent and very successful tournament-level player and an excellent teacher.

Following a move to Houston in the 1980s, Nancy met and married Darryl, the love of her life. They initially met when Nancy asked Darryl to modify a saxophone for her youngest son, George Jr. No moment together was ever wasted as long as they were together, sharing each other’s company.

Despite later significant health issues, Nancy never lost her vitality, dynamism, fearlessness, or sense of humor in facing all challenges head on. Nancy’s strength and depth of character were some of her most pronounced qualities, recognized, respected and admired by all those with whom she came into contact. Despite the obstacles put in her path, Nancy had a zest for life that was contagious. This was a remarkable Daughter of God with a quiet but very deep spiritual life who treated all with respect and who gave her all to those in her life.

A Memorial Service to honor Nancy’s life will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 1801 Sage Road, Houston, Texas.

“A happy marriage is a long conversation that always seems too short.”
