February 19, 2016 by Miller Funeral & Cremation Services Staff

When most people reflect on end of life arrangements and a memorial service that encompasses the spirit of the deceased loved one, they often think of the traditional burial service.

A ceremony that involves burial brings to mind closure, the gathering of loved ones, and the belief that returning to the earth is a meaningful ritual in the circle of life.

From an early age, many of us have paid our respects at a local cemetery and feel more connected to the departed when given a place to feel his or her eternal presence.

Still, there are many questions about burial and how services may be customized to suit the wishes of the individual and family.

FAQ About The Burial Service

Does a burial always require a memorial service?

No. One of the misconceptions is that, with the burial must be an onsite service, relegated to the funeral home.

At Miller Funeral & Cremation Services, there is flexibility in options – whether that includes an open casket service at our facility, an offsite memorial, or a simple graveside service. We can accommodate your wishes to create the end of life dedication that is most meaningful to you and your loved ones.

Can you help us find a qualified minister or other clergy member to conduct the memorial?

Yes. We partner with many respected and experienced people of faith from several denominations who can provide the service eulogy that best reflects the departed. These arrangements can be made in advance, as with pre-planning, or with the family. Our goal is to ensure the service best reflects the beliefs and traditions of the deceased.

I would like to make my own arrangements and avoid the stress and burden on my family. How can I do this?

Pre-planning is a much more common option these days for individuals who want to both alleviate the family of such decisions and costs as well as feel empowered to plan the end of life ceremony they desire. Pre-planning or pre-funding allows you to have the peace of mind in knowing your loved ones won’t need to make rushed arrangements and financial decisions.

Pre-need planning also avoids the increase in any fees for services since these are set at fixed price of when the agreement is made, unlike a life insurance policy.

Pre-need arrangements are also interest free.

How is insurance handled?

The loss of someone who is deeply loved can be a devastating and stressful time for those left behind. Trying to sort through an insurance policy would understandably be the last thing on your mind.

At Miller Funeral & Cremation Services, we are able to include the handling of life insurance policies and subsequent payments as an integral part of the services provided.

What are my options for creating a personalized service?

We are here to assist you in designing a service that is truly reflective of you or a loved one. You have the option to select a metal casket and pick the color and gauge or select a wooded casket from a various selection of wood species.
